- Final Fantasy XIII: New Figures ReleaseS
- Edited by: 03/16/2010
Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIII had unsurprisingly taken the top spot in the UK’s multi-format sales charts after only one week of availability, new figures have been released today offering a breakdown of the units sold on each format. Originally intended as a PlayStation 3 exclusive, Final Fantasy XIII was confirmed to be receiving both an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 release in western territories at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in 2008, and finally debuted on both formats in the UK on 9th March, 2010.
While precise figures for either format have not been revealed, Square Enix has announced that the PlayStation 3 format is leading the UK, split with fifty-four percent in favour of Sony’s console and forty-six percent of consumers picking-up the title on Microsoft’s Xbox 360. While many gamers may argue that this result could easily have been predicted, industry professionals would argue that sales have gone against their forecasts. Electronic Theatre contacted a number of supermarket and high street chains, and was informed that more than half had stocked more units on the Xbox 360 than PlayStation 3. None, however, were in fear of being left with redundant stock.
Final Fantasy XIII is one of the most highly-anticipated videogame releases on the current-generation of videogames systems, and reports are currently doing the rounds suggesting that it has become the fastest selling title of 2010 in the UK. Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with all the latest details on Final Fantasy XIII, and other videogames releases from Square Enix.
